Organisers have been nervously waiting for the reaction after being forced to switch the iconic event from King Edward Park in Newcastle to the the Ringwood Park Motorsport Complex north of Raymond Terrace.
Newcastle MG Car Club publicity officer Peter Robinson said the feedback from fans and drivers was excellent.
“Everyone misses the spectacular views over the ocean, but the fans were excited that many of the vantage points gave them a full view of the course,” Robinson said.
“The drivers were wrapped with the challenging course as well.
“Fans are happy, drivers are happy and we didn’t have any major crashes, it’s a great start.”
There were some spills with Russell West flipping his Datsun 180B and Wayne Grosser's crashing his Ford FPV GS on Saturday.
