The Mustangs girls were defeated by 38-25 by Newcastle Hunters to finish 10th in the shield section or bottom 12 of the championships.
Maitland and Newcastle had jointly hosted the under-14 Australian titles which brought the boys and girls competitions together for the first time.
In the play-off for 9th and 10th spots Maitland had the speed up the floor, using their back court to get the jump on Newcastle but the post-work of the Hunters proved more damaging on the scoreboard.
The Hunters dominance on the glass meant the Mustangs did not get many second chance opportunities if they missed.
The Mustangs had their breakthrough win on Friday defeating NT South Stars from Alice Springs 62-16.
The Newcastle Hunters completed a great series winning the Shield bronze medal defeating Townsville Heat 59-48.
