Precious Quality ran a best-of-day 24.98 seconds for the 450 metres to easily win the second of three heats while Spirited Quality won the first heat in 25.15s.
Burke was unlucky not to make it a hat-trick of wins when another of his charges, Can I Typo, was pressing for the early lead in the third heat but struck trouble and finished seventh.
Precious Quality is usually a poor beginner but pinged the lids from box three on Thursday and led throughout to record her fifth career win and the first since last saluting at The Gardens in March.
The daughter of Trewly Special and All Quality was too strong in the straight and beat the Peter Neilson-trained Shak Retreat (25.36s) by five and three quarter lengths with the Glen Mckinley-trained Conspiracy (25.46s) third.
Spirited Quality has proven a more consistent performer for Burke with five wins and two placings in his past eight starts.
The son of Magic Sprite and All Quality was the best away from box six and led throughout to beat the Peter Sims-trained Chiricahua (25.49s) by four and three quarter lengths with the Lorraine Watts-trained Kitty’s Machine (25.55s) third.
Spirited Quality has hit a purple patch of form and he only needs to ping the lids again this week to be a top chance to bring home the $2000 first prize for Burke.
The third heat went to the well performed Chevy Prince in 25.24s for Keinbah trainer Robert Howard.
The son of Fabregas and Chevy Princess jumped well from box six and was able to avoid trouble on the first turn before powering home in the straight to beat the Barry Evans-trained Frosty Moments (25.38s) by two lengths.
While Chevy Prince was the slowest of the three heat winners punters will be aware that he has a personal best of 24.83s at Maitland and only needs a clear run in the final to unleash his customary powerful sprint to the finishing post.
All will go into the $2000-to-the-winner final on Thursday.
Diddy Adora breaks through
It was nice to see Diddy Adora finally break through for her maiden win at start 14 over the 565m at Maitland for Bishops Bridge trainer Colin Kneeshaw.
The daughter of Spring Gun and Diddy Rose had finished in the minors five times over the shorter trips at Maitland but showed her class with an all-the-way win in 32.54s from box three in the Telarah Famous Pies Stakes.
North Rothbury trainer Pat Parrelli was all smiles after Devine Ivy broke her maiden at start six at the grand odds of 40 to one in the ClassicBest Maiden over 400m.
The daughter of El Grand Senor and Devine Style began well from box four and clocked a respectable 22.69s to beat the Cheryl Murray-trained Archie Wah Wah by one and a quarter lengths.
Kneeshaw and Parrelli are regulars at Maitland on race and trial days and it’s nice to see them enjoying continued success.
