The Pokolbin branch of the Australian Fine Arts and Decorative Society (ADFAS) will kick off its 2018 program with a movie screening at Reading Cinemas, Maitland on Sunday, February 18.

The Oscar-nominated Darkest Hour, starring Gary Oldman as Winston Churchill, will be screened from 4pm for ADFAS Pokolbin members and friends.

Admission is $30, including the film, followed by pizza, Hunter Valley wines and a choc-top ice cream.

Payment can be made on the day, but bookings are essential by calling Judy on 0409 986 565 or emailing

ADFAS Pokolbin’s vice-chair and publicity officer Heather McKendry said the branch anticipates another great year of lectures and activities.

“ADFAS Pokolbin supports a Young Arts Program, to inspire local young people with an enthusiasm for the arts of all kinds – painting, photography, sculpture, dance and ceramics,” she said.

Founded in 2008, the Young Arts program has raised thousands of dollars for local schools.

This year it will continue to support activities for Cessnock East and West primary schools, along with the secondary arts scholarship (which was granted for the first time in 2017).

The branch has a range of interesting guest speakers this year, starting with NADFAS lecturer Christopher Bradley on Monday, February 26.
