The two teams have shared the past four A-grade premierships between themselves claiming two each, but there are some fresh challengers on the horizon including the young talent-laden Royal Federal Hotel who beat fellow Branxton team MFBC 41-35.
The George opened their account with a 54-28 win against Maitland Blacks team Tolsaf Cranes, capitalising better on goal in an even-contest.
Hills shooters were also in good form and they had a 66-38 win against Maitland Carpet Court.
Club Maitland City, who lost to Hills in last year’s preliminary final, showed they are likely to be biggest challenge to the big two’s dominance with a 59-37 win against A-grade newcomers Hinton Hotel.
Royal Hotel, made up of six Maitland under-17 representative players and a couple of experienced players, will be delighted to take first up local bragging rights.
