IT was a tail of two celebrities, when television personality Dr Harry met the city’s own icon Hamish the Llama on Thursday.

Locals might’ve seen the renowned vet strolling around the city with two llamas as part of the filming for an episode for Better Homes and Gardens.
“There are animals in many advertisements these days .. but this is the first time we’ve ever had a llama promoting something,” Dr Harry said.
“This is just a different way of promoting something using an animal, and a llama is such a wonderful steady animal.
“I would be pushed to find another domestic animal as cool as the llama.”
Most residents wouldn’t bat an eyelash when seeing Hamish the Llama strolling around the streets or even sitting at the bar in the local watering hole.
But did you know he moonlights as the mascot for the city’s Fire and Rescue?
Dr Harry paid a visit to Maitland Fire Station as part of his visit.
“He has formed huge part of our fire safety campaign. The children love him, so he entertains them while we speak to parents about safety such as smoke alarms,” deputy captain Brad Howell said.
“He’s one of a kind. We don’t know any other llama that is a mascot for Fire and Rescue.”
