Athletic Lee, Bland Purr, Famous Lee and Embossed will spearhead Lord’s assault on the $7000-to-the-winner final and she also has a back-up plan with Boss Three Fifty the first reserve.

Lord’s chances of taking home the winner’s trophy were greatly enhanced when heat six winner Bland Purr set the time standard with a sizzling 22.18 seconds for the 400 metres and then drew box two for the final.

Butterwick owner Jody Manuel’s screams could be heard above the crowd when her dog Chevy Thor won the fifth heat in 22.28s for trainer Alan Proctor of Londonderry.

Jody and husband Michael are strong supporters of the Maitland club and there will be a lot of local support when Chevy Thor jumps from box five in the final.

Jilliby trainer Lorraine Atchison’s Blueberry will start from box four in the final after winning the fourth heat in 22.49s.

The daughter of Go Wild Teddy and Sheike carved out the best first section of 5.25s and on that form is chance to lead the field if she gets a clear run from the squeeze box.

Heat seven threw up the last two finalists with the Frank Hurst-trained Good Odds Harada clocking 22.37s to beat the fastest runner-up Emgrand Park from Peter Azzopardi’s kennels.

The two reserves are Boss Three Fifty (22.62s) for Jodie Lord and Swizzle Sticka (22.70s) for Michael Manuel.

The final will be held at Maitland Showground on Thursday, October 25 with the first race to kick off about 4pm and the final will be run about 6pm.
