THE Australia Day 2018 celebrations at Maitland Park were a success.
There was a range of activities for the whole family to enjoy from 7.30am to 3.30pm.
The Lions Club of East Maitland hosted a free barbecue breakfast from 7.30am to kick off the event.
The Australia Day ceremony including ambassador speech, presentation of citizen of the year and young citizen of the year awards and citizenship ceremony started at 10am.
A range of outback theme activities, including kids’ echidna races, damper making and swag rolling formed part of the action, and mask making, thong throwing, face painting and a Classic Car Display by the Maitland Classic Motor Association topped off an already great event.
Slow Food Hunter Valley’s Amorelle Dempster was named Maitland’s 2017 Citizen of the Year.
Christopher Teasdale was crowned Maitland’s 2017 Young Citizen of the Year.
Families enjoyed free entry to Maitland Pool between 10am and 3pm.
