Cessnock boxing trainer Ben Crampton is expecting huge things from his boxers Blake Minto and Zack Fitzpatrick after their return from a boxing camp in Las Vegas.
Minto, from Toronto, and Fitzpatrick, from Cessnock, are both on the card at the Detonation 14 fight night at NEX, the former Wests City Newcastle, on June 22.
Former WBF world super lightweight champion Minto is fighting Sydney-based Irishman Gearoid Clancy for the IBO Asia Pacific Belt.
Three-time Australian amateur champion Fitzpatrick has a testing fight against Tasmanian Cayden Rossi.
"The boys have just finished their camp in Las Vegas and both are looking super fit," Crampton said.
"Blake has relinquished the WBF world title he won and we're going in a new direction with the IBO and we'll start climbing the rankings in the IBO now.
"Clancy is very durable and tough. This fight will definitely go the 10 rounds, it will go the distance.
"It's a big ask for Blake as he hasn't fought for nearly 12 months, but he is super, super fit.
"That's why we took him to Vegas to give him a kick start and get him some quality sparring.
"He performed well over there, he had three sparring sessions against quality boxers in the week.
"We trained at Pound for Pound Boxing in Las Vegas and sparred some really good amateurs and pros and he fought well, it was well worth it.
"It's the fittest I've seen Blake this close to the weight.
"He should beat Clancy but it will be a hard fight. If he wins this, it is his fourth belt. He has been Australasian champion, Asia Pacific champion, International champion and World champion.
"That's a big feat for him, it's a great record."
Rossi, a former Australian title holder, has an experience and weight advantage over Fitzpatrick despite them both being aged 14.
"Cayden is very experienced, he has had 30-odd fights and is a former national champion. It will be another good, hard fight for Zack.
"Zack is fighting in the 48kg division, but this bout will be a catch-weight with Kaden coming into the fight weighing about 49.5kg. It's only 1.5kg so he will be right.
"We took Zack over to the US as well and and he did some awesome training over there. Zack and Blake have been in camp now for over 10 weeks and we are nearly there."
Reserved seats are available for Detonation 14 from $65 through Crampton's Boxing Academy by calling Ben on 0400 462 904.
