Wet My Whistle ($4.60) went to the front from gate three and held the lead from Blake Fitzpatrick-trained favourite Leonidas ($1.95), which made an early move three wide to sit outside the Kiwi import.
Amanda Turnbull's Obi One ($5) challenged down the home straight but Wet My Whistle lifted for driver Leigh Sutton to hold on by a head in a mile rate of 1:57:7.
The victory took the four-year-old's unbeaten run in Australia to six.
Harmey was concerned Wet My Whistle was not ready for the series after discovering late that Kiwi-bred pacers were eligible, but McColl wanted him to race.
Sawyers Gully trainer Cameron Davies picked up third with Battle Chimes, which was also third in the Inter City Pace at Maitland last month.
