Now the challenge is to back up the biggest win in the club's history with victory against Flames on Saturday.
"Everyone was just so excited, I think a lot of us were still double checking the next day that we had the win," Comets player Kiona Sunerton said.
"Since the season started we've managed to beat both of last year's A-grade grand finalists."
Sunerton said the Comets had successfully blended experience and youth with three Maitland under-17 representatives now forming the spine of the team.
Defender Sophie Hickling and centre Jessica Mossman were part of the Comets' push into the finals last season and they have been joined by young shooter and fellow Maitland under-17 representative Molly Young.
"They are all amazing and playing beyond their years," Sunerton said.
Given Hills' dominance over the past decade and the excitement any win against them generates, Saturday's result was by no means a changing of the guard moment.
But the Comets' form and competition newcomers WRTNC Stangas' unbeaten start after three games has injected a sense that Hills have real challenges to their mantle.
After missing a place in the grand final for the first time in five years The George Tavern are firmly back among the challengers, sitting undefeated on top of the ladder.
Sunerton said it was easily the team's best performance since promotion to A-grade.
Back-to-back champions Hills went through last year unbeaten and lost just one game on the way to winning the 2018 title.
Comets beat Customs House 55-28 in week one and grand finalist Club Maitland City 38-31 in week two.
In other games last week, The George saw off a spirited EMNC Rebels with a 46-37 victory and WRTNC Stangas asserted their credentials by beating Customs House Hotel 49-26.
Flames and BDNC Alcobolics secured their first wins of the season. Flames defeated WRTNC Razzamatazz. 34-16 and BDNC Alcobolics won a thriller holding off the Bradford 46-42.
In the final game Club Maitland City defeted Quarry Bar Grill 35-26 in the Wests derby.
