Stangas took their record to six wins from six games when they overcame Club Maitland City 36-30 in the Wests derby on Saturday.
Made up of Maitland Mustangs basketball players, Stangas have only met one opponent from the top four to date but in that game last Sunday they accounted for the then previously unbeaten Comets 49-41.
Comets can now claim wins over The George and Hills Solicitors in the same season, a feat not achieved by any other team since at least 2014.
Hills Solicitors reasserted their status as a competition power with a 66-26 win against Customs House Hotel to sit third equal on 21 points with The George (second) and Comets (fourth).
EMNC Rebels, who had a 51-26 win over the Bradford, and Club Maitland City are just three points outside the top four equal on 18 points and both very much still in the mix for finals action.
The battle for top four spots heats up next week with last year's grand finalists Hills and CMC clashing and Rebels facing Stangas.
The following week is a huge game between Stangas and Hills which will very much be a guide to whether the new girls on the block can unseat the reigning champs.
In other matches on Saturday, WRTNC Quarry Bar & Grill 33 defeated Flames 29 and BDNC Alcobolics 34 beat WRTNC Razzamatazz 24.
