Magpies coach Mick Bolch rated Thornton as at best a 50-50 chance, but would be given every chance to play.
Thornton's brother and Magpies skipper Carl will be lining up for his 99th game for the Magpies.
The brothers joined the Magpies from the Weston Bears for Maitland's promotion to the Northern NSW NPL competition in 2016.
Trott will line up for his 100th game after his heroics in goal and a perfectly placed penalty shot delivered Maitland victory in last week's elimination final against Charlestown Azzurri.
Set to retire at the end of the season, the Magpies' favourite will be keen to prolong his career for at least another week as the Magpies push to make the 2020 grand final.
If the Magpies defeat Olympic today they will face Broadmeadow Magic in the preliminary final after Edgeworth progressed 7-6 on penalties at Jack McLaughlan Oval.
The scores were locked 2-all at the end of normal play and both teams scored a goal in extra time sending the game to penalties.
The Maitland reserves are also scheduled to play today with the young Magpies to face Broadmeadow Magic in the elimination minor semi final from 12.15pm.
Kick off in the main game between Maitland and Olympic is at 2.30pm
