Defending his Australian title, O'Meley takes on Gunnedah's Wade Ryan for the vacant IBO International Super Welterweight title under the dome at East Cessnock Bowling Club on Saturday, December 5 for what will be the first fight back in NSW since the Covid lockdown.

O'Meley's last fight was on March 7 when he defeated Queenslander Adrian Rodriguez in a unanimous points decision in front of a big crowd at the ECBC to take the Australian title.

It's been a long break but O'Meley says he is super keen to get his rise up the rankings back on track after Covid-19 and stake a claim to take on current World Super Welterweight champion Tim Tszyu who is set to defend his title against New Zealand fighter Bowyn Morgan at Bankwest Stadium in December.

"To be the best in the world I want to fight the best in the world and at the moment that is Tim," he said.

While Tszyu has ignored requests for a fight to date, O'Meley, who is unbeaten in 11 professional fights, believes weight of numbers will force a Tszyu/O'Meley card eventually.

A southpaw, Ryan, 30, boasts a 14 win, five loss professional record including a points decision loss to Tszyu back in 2017 in which Tszyu was forced to take a count.

"He is a southpaw and I've had reports that he is a pretty tough guy and there are a lot of similarities between the two of us," O'Meley said.

"We both are very tough and throw lots of punches in our fights, but I believe if I use my boxing ability I can beat him.

"I think I can beat him in a war and I can beat him in a boxing match."

O'Meley said he was in a good place physically and mentally going into the fight after the long Covid break.

"At the start it was tough as I wanted to fight straight away after winning the Australian title. I was on a high and wanted to get straight back in the ring and keep going.

"It put me back mentally a little bit but I was able to refocus and I'm feeling really good.

"I've got a new job working with special needs kids on the Central Coast and I think everything has come together for me. The timing is perfect for me, I'm ready to go."
