The Bureau of Meteorology has predicted temperatures between 1 and 6 degrees for Tuesday, with snow showers above 1100 metres.
Chief Inspector Guy Guiana, from Hunter Valley Police District, said officers would not consider visiting the snow a reasonable excuse for leaving home during the statewide lockdown.
"With strong winds, there is also potential for trees and branches to fall, posing a direct risk to visitors, and possibly blocking access into and out of the area," he said.
"NSW Police may close roads at any time to ensure road safety. During extreme weather, the status of roads on Barrington Tops can change at short notice.
"Hefty fines apply for breaching the current public health orders, so on top of the physical hazards, now is not the time to be travelling for any reason not specifically allowed for in the public health orders."
