The Weston Bears are mourning the death of club life member John "Junior" Beatty who died on Monday, aged 94.

Born in Weston in 1927, "Junior" joined the Bears committee in the mid 1960s and was part of the Weston revolution which ignited Northern football.
He served as treasurer to 1973 when he then took on the presidency until 1980 overseeing tremendous success.
During that time the Bears won grand finals in 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974 and 1977 and they also claimed premierships in 1971, 1972, 1973, 1977 and 1980.
Beatty also served on the board of the Northern NSW Football Federation and was an active member in the community outside football with life membership of the Weston Workers Club and Labor Party.
His legacy continues at the Bears with his family still involved.
His funeral is on Friday and a celebration of his life will be held once COVID restrictions are lifted.
