A Hunter man was among the 14 people who died with COVID-19 across NSW in the 24 hours to 4pm on Monday, as the region's daily case number spiked.

The Hunter New England health district recorded 1242 new cases of the virus during the period - an increase of more than 500 from the previous day.
Of the new cases, 1018 were detected by rapid antigen tests and 224 by PCR tests.
The local health district confirmed that a man aged in his 90s from the Cessnock local government area was among those with the virus who lost their life.
There are 35 people with COVID-19 in Hunter New England hospitals, including two in intensive care units.
NSW recorded 8752 new COVID-19 cases - almost doubling the number from the previous day.
There are 1293 COVID-19 patients in the state's hospitals, including 71 in intensive care.
