Mourners at the funeral of district cricket and rugby league stalwart Peter "Blocker" Edwards have been asked to wear the sporting colours of the teams he was associated with including the red and white of his beloved Dragons.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, April 4, at 11am in the Chapel of Lake Macquarie Memorial Park, Cessnock Rd, Ryhope.

Maitland district cricket and rugby league are mourning the death of Peter "Blocker" Edwards who died aged 57 on Friday.
A loyal servant of the Maitland and District Cricket Association, City United and Kurri Weston cricket clubs and the Kurri Kurri Bulldogs, Edwards was remembered for his love of both games and his contribution as a player, coach, administrator and committee member.
The Maitland District Cricket Association led the tributes posting that it was saddened by the "loss of a very influential member of local Maitland cricket community".
"Peter 'Blocker' Edwards had a massive impact on so many players in our area," the association posted
"His dedication and effort towards improving cricketers in the local area over many years will be sorely missed.
"His love for the game and his willingness to help others will always be remembered.
"On behalf of the MDCA community our thoughts and condolences go to his family and friends."
The Maitland District Junior Cricket Association posted: "It with a heavy heart that MDJCA wishes to inform our cricketing family that we lost one of all time greats this weekend.
"Pete "Blocker" Edwards has been an instrumental part of our Rep cricket teams for many seasons.
"He has left an indelible mark on so many kids that he has coached, and a deep impression on the families and other coaches with which he came into contact with.
"All selflessly, with no fuss and always in the best interests of our little cricketers.
"We hope his family is coping OK under the circumstances, and can rely on the thought that he has left a mark on us and on the cricketing community in our region."
City United cricket club remembered Edwards as a player and coach.
"Blocker played for City and was a fierce competitor. He worked hard with the juniors for many years and he's had an everlasting effect on many players," they posted.
"Our thoughts and prayers go out to Libby and the family."
"Kurri Weston cricket club posted: From playing to coaching, from juniors to seniors Block Edwards has had an impact on all roles at various levels.
"Sporting clubs need people like Block. We thank him for his selfless time and energy and recognise that many players and officials from the region are so much better off for his valuable presence and influence.
"We would also like to pass on our sincere condolences to his much loved family. Gone but never forgotten Peter 'Blocker' Edwards'
Edwards served various roles with the Kurri Kurri Bulldogs who remembered him as "a loyal and passionate supporter of the Bulldogs".
"Pete was always happy to lend a hand! Supporters and volunteers like Pete don't come around that often! Whether it be picking up the clipboard as a team manger or his most recent role of taking the reigns as secretary of our great club."
"We send sincere condolences to Pete's wife Libby, children Kate, Ben, Abby and Jacko and his grandchildren."
