It's somewhat of a miracle that the Mother's Day blooms at the Harris family farm are radiant this week.

They have endured wet conditions ever since they were planted and the family is quite surprised - but also relieved - at how bountiful they are.
It wasn't just a stroke of luck though. Medowie farmer Harry Harris was out digging new drains for the plants every time the heavens opened in a bid to stop water congregating at their roots and sending them into a downward spiral.
"This year we've got 40 different varieties - there is a range of chrysanthemums and we may have some sunflowers available on the weekend," daughter Sarah Mulholland said.
"It has been a really hard season. We have lost some varieties due to mould and having a wet season - and the rain in the last week hasn't helped us - but otherwise they have done really well.
"We grew about 1000 more plants this year to make up for the loss of the bad ones - so that we could keep the quality in the farm and plan incase things went bad.
So what is it about farm fresh blooms that will win over mum on Mother's Day?
"It means appreciation for all the love and care," Sarah's mother Jane Harris said.
"It's a really simple and affordable gesture to give your mum a bunch of flowers for Mother's Day and it's a way to say 'thank you for being mum'."
All of the flowers are expected to last a long time in a vase.
The flowers are available at their on-farm shop in Medowie, called The Little Ten Shed, and cost $10 to $50, depending on the size.
The farm is open between 7am and 5pm every day this week, including Mother's Day.
There will be 150 bunches available at the Slow Food Earth Market Maitland in The Levee on Thursday as a fundraiser for Slow Food Hunter Valley. These bunches will cost $15 each or 2 for $25. The market starts at 8.30am and finishes at 1pm.
