Magpies' coach Craig McRae confirmed the pair are good to go for the blockbuster, De Goey having overcome a hip flexor complaint while Ginnivan is fine after hamstring and ankle niggles.

It leaves the Pies with minimal excuses for Sunday afternoon's game, where a win will secure them a double-chance while a loss would ensure the Blues make the finals.

De Goey missed last weekend's loss to Sydney, but McRae said there was no temptation to put him on ice further before finals.

"We can only control what he does and his actions suggest that his top-speed running and agility was there and all the things you need to do to step out on the field," he told reporters.

"Once you step out there, there's so many different things that can happen but all you can control is setting it up and right now he's declared himself ... fit to play."

Ginnivan, who's slotted 33 goals in just his second AFL season, sat out the second half of the Sydney loss and is a huge inclusion after his side struggled to penetrate the Swans' stubborn defence in his absence.

It was their first defeat since round eight and McRae said they'd learned plenty from the loss.

"We learned lots, but we learn a lot when we're winning," he said.

"We're in the business of getting better and so just because the scoreboard said we didn't get the job done, doesn't mean we don't get in here and get better.

"So lots of stuff about our ball movement and how to play that ground better, the opposition are really strong in certain defensive parts of the game so there's lots to learn."

McRae said his team would lean into the clash of traditional rivals and try to deliver their fans a huge win, even before they head into a finals campaign where they appear positioned to make some noise.

"We understand this is not just a normal game, there's a lot behind it, a lot at stake for both teams, we're aware and we're gonna embrace that," he said.

"We're going to embrace every bit of it, the contest, the rivalry.

"The outcomes we can't control but we'll embrace all of that and make sure we put our best foot forward into Sunday."
