The under 14s squad were joined by Newcastle Knights hooker Adam Clydsdale for a training session on Thursday in finalising preparations for the 2015 NSW Rugby League All Schools Carnival.
Lochinvar coach Jen Corben, who spoke to the Mercury from Sydney on Monday afternoon, said the NRL player’s visit was well received by the junior team.
“It was a nice treat before going down to All Schools,” Corben said.
“There was a bit of motivation, a few defensive drills and he [Clydsdale] went through a bit of a game plan for the boys like they do in first grade.”
This will hopefully hold the back-to-back Knights Knockout champions in good stead against Eagle Vale, De La Salle and Lake Illawarra at Whalan Reserve in St Mary’s.
They also have experience gained at last year’s tournament, which yielded two wins and a loss, on their side.
“They are all excited and raring to go,” Corben said.
“Coming down last year will also help because know what to expect and are a bit more aware of what’s expected at this level.
“They won two and lost one last year but you pretty well need to win everything to go through.”
All Saints College, St Peter’s Campus, Maitland, will be going around on Tuesday as well, but in the under-13 section.
Francis Greenway High School will fly the local flag in the girls’ section on Wednesday.
Pickers Cup winners St Paul’s, Rutherford competed on Monday.
More than 4000 players from 200 schools take part in Australia’s biggest junior rugby league carnival.
