Telstra released a statement last week that noted more than 1000 homes and businesses in the Windella and Rutherford areas had become able to connect to the high-speed broadband network.
Telstra Country Wide area general manager Tricia Wilson said her company’s NBN service in the Maitland area would give residents a chance to use a variety of new technologies.
“The continued roll-out of the NBN network in Maitland is bringing a new brilliantly connected era for locals,” she said.
“The roll-out of more NBN network services in Maitland comes as broadband use in Australia has reached unprecedented levels. Last year, the volume of traffic carried over Telstra’s fixed network increased by more than 30 per cent.
“The streaming video revolution is accelerating demand for fast, reliable connectivity, with more than half of Telstra’s fixed broadband traffic now video related.”
NBN Co, the national body in charge of the NBN roll-out, was criticised earlier this month by Aberglasslyn residents who have faced an ongoing wait for the service.
Fairfax Media has reported in recent weeks that residents in Cedar Wattle Close have become fed up with a lack of NBN access – despite the remainder of the suburb being able to connect.
NBN Co apologised for the ongoing delay last week and said the residents would be able to connect early in the new year.
The NBN is available in Pitnacree, Tenambit, Raworth, Morpeth, Ashtonfield, Metford, Louth Park, Horseshoe Bend, Oakhampton, Gillieston Heights, Aberglasslyn, Bolwarra Heights, Largs, Mindaribba, Bolwarra, Telarah and Lorn.
Residents and business owners have to sign up to a plan with a service provider in order to access the NBN, after they are able to connect to the infrastructure. Maps of areas that are connected and those that are on the roll-out schedule are available at the NBN Co website.
