It’s spring in the fair city of Maitland, the sky seems bluer, the birds chirpier, we all stopped to watch the fillies in their finery (sorry the race on the first Tuesday) and, if you are like me, business is blossoming.

With our region feeling the downturn of the mining industry I was intrigued to read about the coal price increase and have noticed a definite increase in economic activity this spring. Is your business feeling the upswing?
The chamber is also extremely busy having just completed the AGM and election of executive officers. I am pleased to say, and hopefully you readers will also be pleased, I have been re-elected as the President of the chamber for the next 12 months.
I continue to see this as a huge honour and I am still driven to be a voice that drives economic activity to our city and a driver of programs to get better networking activities for members.
Mr Barry Sims is stepping up to the plate as VP and we welcome his years of chamber movement experience.
This week I had a golden opportunity to share dinner with the CEO of the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr James Pearson, and it was refreshing to hear him speak. He is truly dedicated to gaining information from chambers such as ours. A more unified approach is required to truly unlock the power of the business chamber.
