Hinton Road between Hinton Bridge and Morpeth was cut about 7pm last night as flood waters crept over Phoenix Park, leaving the town an island.
The Hunter River at Maitland is 8.08 metres and steady with minor flooding occurring.
The river is 9.31 metres at Oakhampton and rising, and 10.43 metres at Greta and steady.
At Morpeth the river recorded a height of 5.69 metres at 6.45am and is falling.
SES crews are keeping a close eye on the river levels.
The Paterson River at Gostwyck Bridge was 10.01 metres at 7.30am and falling.
At Vacy it is 8.55 metres and rising.
Maitland SES Local Area Controller Bruce Varley has reminded people no
to walk or drive through floodwater.
Mr Varley said while the water may look stagnant there could be a
current running underneath, and people often underestimated the height
of the water.
Acting Hunter Controller Ken Speer said cars easily stalled in a small
amount of water and a current could easily wash a car downstream.
