But the Maitland soprano is ready to take centre stage at a concert designed to raise money for one of the city’soldest churches.
Ms Redman – along with baritone Craig Everingham and pianist Phillip Sketchley – will perform at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Sunday as part of a fund-raising effort to restore and conserve the church and its surroundings.
“I actually haven’t sung a concert since Sophie [Ms Redman’s first daughter] was five months old, so this will be the first time in nearly five years,” she said.
“And I am looking forward to it. As long as the children sleep through the night before Sunday then I’ll be happy. But I’m sure someone will get sick or someone will have a nightmare.”
A soloist with the Vienna State Opera for 12 years, Ms Redman now lives in Maitland with her husband and two young daughters.
“I just haven’t been able to do a lot because I get too tired, but now the girls are sleeping I may be able to get into it a bit more,” she said.
“I also know quite a few people involved with this church so when I was asked to sing I thought why not?”
Late last year Maitland parishioners raised $3000 for the restoration of the Sacred Heart of Jesus statute at Campbells Hill.
As a result, the Italian-made statue has been restored to its former glory.
q Music From the Heart will be held at the church on Sunday at 2pm. Tickets are available at the door. For more information phone Mark Wilson on 0415 094 438.
