The interior revamp comes just weeks after the company announced it had signed a new lease to continue trading in Maitland for another 15 years.
The bright new interior allows customers to find items more easily with products grouped together in what they call three worlds, or categories – home, kids and clothing.
The home section, for example, will contain everything from furniture to cookbooks and kitchenware.
The store looks brighter and a bold colour palette makes it simple for customers to identify which area they are in and make their way to relevant parts of the store.
Manned checkouts will be centrally located, making them easier to find and will allow more room for merchandised windows and areas for event products at the front of the store.
The store opened on September 23, 1985 and today employs 155 team members.
“The team and I are excited to be able to show case the new store to customers and for this to coincide with out 30th anniversary is the icing on the cake,” store manager Scott Branch said.
“Kmart Maitland has become an integral part of the community over the past 30 years,” he said.
“My team and I have built many relationships with locals and we hope to continue this for a long time to come.”
The refit is part of the company’s broader plan to refurbish all stores within the next five years.
