A 78-year-old woman was assaulted during the break-in at a Lang Street facility on June 10.
A man broke into the woman’s room and demanded cash just after 11pm.
The woman was assaulted and the man stole her wallet containing cash and credit cards.
The woman suffered bruising to her face.
On June 18, a resident at the same aged care centre reported a man attempting to break into her room.
Police were told she was woken by the sound of a chair moved towards a railing on the back veranda about 11.30pm.
The man did not gain entry and left before the resident or staff could locate him.
Police believe the incidents are linked.
Central Hunter police have released security footage of a man who may be able to assist with inquiries.
The man is described as having dark hair and wearing shorts with two stripes down the sides and a jumper and has been seen with a dog.
