Meryl Swanson came out swinging in federal parliament on Thursday, taking aim at the government which she said has done “diddly squat” to contain soaring energy prices.
Swanson, the Member for Paterson, said it was abhorrent that some of her constituents were going to bed cold when AGL’s profit forecast for the year could exceed $1 billion.
“Rising energy prices are stretching family budgets to breaking point,” she said. “People are going cold, and hungry, in many cases.
“In my electorate of Paterson the median weekly income is 11 per cent below the national average.”
She took a thinly veiled swipe at Malcolm Turnbull’s same sex marriage plebiscite when she held up a dollar and said “You’ve been in government four years and done diddly squat on a national energy policy.
“Here’s a dollar why don’t you send everyone out a survey.”
