Biz Synergy, a Maitland-based book-keeping and accounting business, won the Australian Xero Partner of the Year title at the Xerocon event held in Melbourne in September.
The annual conference attracts about 3000 attendees from around the world, including a long list of industry heavy weights, brought together by the industry’s leading accounting software, Xero.
Owner Deb Mirisch said just being nominated for an award was a proud moment for her, given the Church St business’s humble beginnings six years ago.
“We were nominated alongside a lot of people I look up to and admire in the industry. I didn’t think we were in the running to win it,” she said.
“We went in thinking we’re the underdogs.”
To her surprise, they were announced the winners.
“It was pretty surreal, I keep thinking someone is going to pinch me and wake me up,” she said.
“We managed to pull it off.”
The national award goes into the trophy cabinet next to the state award they won a few weeks earlier.
She said it was a result to be proud of for the tight-knit team of six employees.
“It’s pretty good for a business from Maitland in the Hunter Valley to go up against all these businesses from across the country,” she said.
