A vehicle is believed to have turned the wrong way down the one-way Church Street off Ken Tubman Drive, before it was clipped by another vehicle and mounted the kerb, colliding with a fence and a street sign.
It left a white sedan wedged on the footpath, facing the wrong direction into oncoming traffic.
The driver of the car, an elderly woman, and a passenger in the car were believed to be uninjured in the incident.
Maitland Fire and Rescue attended the scene and provided assistance with traffic control.
Traffic was temporarily delayed on the busy road while a tow truck was called to dislodge the vehicle.
