Five Maitland clubs have opened their hearts and their wallets, donating more than $44,000 to help fund special community projects across the Maitland Local Government Area.

Club Maitland City, East Maitland Bowling Club, East Maitland Leisure and Golf Club, Telarah Bowling Club and Maitland District Leagues Club presented Club Grant Category One donations to a number of community and sports programs.
A special presentation held at Club Maitland City on Wednesday night saw a total of $44,928 distributed to deserving causes. Club Maitland City CEO Ian Martin said Club Grants is one formal banner in which clubs fund community programs.
“Clubs are embedded in the community and will always go above and beyond by providing both cash and in-kind support to all different community activities,” Mr Martin said.
“Club Grants is one stream of funding. Recently we have seen clubs mobilise for farmers, particularly with Buy a Bale with direct donations and initiatives.
“Although money can’t make it rain, the heart of the community the local club will always do its fair share to support and care for those in need,” he said.
Most clubs fund community and sporting programs and in sopme cases large scale infrastructure projects. “In 2015 NSW clubs had a social contribution (donations, in‐kind, facilities etc) of $1.3 billion.”
The top six areas NSW clubs’ have recently contributed to are: Sport $67.8m, health $11.1m, education $10.5m, youth services $6.1m, disability services $5.8m and aged care $5.3m.
