Incumbent deputy mayor Liberal councillor Sally Halliday said she would not be contesting the title.
“I was very happy being deputy mayor but I will not be contesting this time,” Cr Halliday said.
Cr Halliday was nominated for the role by Independent Cr Philip Penfold at the first meeting of the new council last year.
The first-term councillor was the lone nominee after Labor’s Cr Henry Meskauskas declined a nomination by fellow party member Cr Donald Ferris.
Incumbent mayor Loretta Baker told The Mercury on Sunday that it was still anyone’s race.
“I am still waiting to talk to everyone but I think there will be a decision on Tuesday,” she said.
The successful councillor will serve as deputy mayor for a one-year term until September 2019.
