Councillors will review an updated report on “the progress of investigations into the construction of a new fit for purpose Administration Centre for Maitland City Council and the City”.
“It is recommended that Council prepare and lodge a development application for a new Council Administration Centre based on the Site Planning and Building Design Principles presented in this report,” council documents said.
The updated report comes after councillors approved plans for investigating the development of the new administration centre in 2016 – which was, then, costed between $20 million and $30 million.
The proposed administration centre, located on the corner of High and Devonshire Streets, would connect the new Administration Centre building to the existing Town Hall.
It will also see the addition of a loading dock and refurbishment of the existing kitchen in the Town Hall to service both the Town Hall and the new Administration Centre.
However, the use of Town Hall’s council chambers will be retained.
The new proposal will also seek approval to widen Devonshire Street to improve vehicular circulation and the Town Hall Cafe building will remain as it is.
Council’s existing administration building was the site of the city’s former Ambulance station, and was officially opened in 1983.
As part of the recommendations, council will draft a capital expenditure review to the NSW Office of Local Government – which is mandatory for any project undertaken by councils in NSW with a value exceeding $10 million.
Councillors will discuss the findings of the report and decide on the administration centre’s future on Tuesday.
