Gallery director Brigette Uren said the fundraiser raised $25,550 for the gallery’s arts in health programs, with 170 people attending on Friday night.
“It was fantastic. We had our best ever fundraiser yet,” she said.
“The way people embraced not only the event, but the cause was very positive. We had people donating even without bidding on auction or raffle tickets.
“Even after the auction was wrapped up, we were receiving more donations. It was very positive.”
This year’s theme was ‘Bollywood To Ballroom’, and included a number of performances throughout the night.
“The entertainment was excellent. Helen Richey was obviously the star of the show – she was beautiful and so generous in spirit,” Ms Uren said.
The annual event raises funds to support members of the community living with memory loss, lived mental health experiences, families with sensory processing needs, and others with accessibility requirements.
“It’s not just a gift to the Maitland Regional Art Gallery but a gift through the gallery and Rotary Club of Maitland Sunrise to the community,” Ms Uren said.
“For the most part, the funds will go to the art and dementia program which we run twice a week on site and deliver at nursing homes in the Maitland area.
“We will also be supporting sensory programs. It’s very important for people who don’t process the world around us the way others might see it. It’s about allowing all people to experience the gallery.
“This will give families the opportunity to be in a public space with children with high needs.”
