The reunion, held at Kurri Kurri Bowling Club, involved speeches and a display of old photos and videos from when the plant was in operation.
The Hydro Aluminium smelter closed in 2012, affecting hundreds of people directly and even more indirectly.
Each year since, a group of former employees has organised a get-together towards the end of the year to reminisce on their workplace.
“It went really well,” reunion committee spokesman Paul O’Brien said. “It was quite a unique workplace. When it closed it was a hard thing for everybody. We had this real social fabric.”
