Akuna Pet Resort at Sawyers Gully goes above and beyond your standard pet boarding accommodation even offering private rooms with single beds, colour TVs and air-conditioning.

Set on four hectares of bushland the resort offers a number of different packages tailored to suit all fur babies including a limo service to and from the site, personalised bushwalks, baked meals, daily Instagram videos to mum and dad and a water fun park.

But the fun doesn’t stop there. You can upgrade your pooch, feline – even your pet pig – to the luxury package and receive a hydro bath and blow dry before you check out.

Owners Ariel Endean and Marcus Nicholls said they wanted to offer holiday care for animals from a budget level to “super spoilt”. “All our guests enjoy a comfortable well insulated hotel room with their own grass garden yard,” Ariel said.

Akuna has hosted a variety of animals – probably the most unusual a pig. “Rosie was meant to be a pot belly pig but kept growing. She was huge,” Ariel said. “The only way to get her from A to B was to bribe her with grapes.”

Some of the more unusual requests staff have received included one to tuck in their fur baby and sing a lullaby at bedtime. “We also get asked to sing happy birthday to those pets celebrating and post it on our Facebook page,” Ariel said.

Akuna is known far and wide with many Sydney customers who take advantage of the door to door pick up in the resort’s Mercedes vans.

“We opened Akuna because we love cats and dogs. Yes we do have single beds, air-conditioning and TV’s but we have made sure we offer a variety of care packages so people can chose what best suits their budget and their pets,” Ariel said.

The “High Energy” package are for those ready to run and play. The“Triple Fun” package includes three fun activities a day – morning bush walk, midday swim and playtime with a carer. The “Quality Care” package includes a private hotel room, hydro bath, blow dry and gentle music.
