Two notorious local road blackspots will be fixed following today’s announcement by the Federal Member for Lyne Dr David Gillespie that nearly $1 million in additional funding would be made available to Dungog Shire Council to help fix local roads.

“The Dungog Shire has a lot of local roads combined with a relatively small rate base," said Dr Gillespie.
"While we’re delighted with the recent announcement by the state government that it will be taking back responsibility for many regional roads on the local road network, I know council will certainly welcome this additional injection of federal funding.
“The federal funding I announce today will mean Gresford Road south of Lennoxton Road at Vacy will be upgraded, as will Clarence Town Road south of Union Bridge at Wirragulla.”
Gresford Road south of Lennoxton Road at Vacy will have a $400,000 project to improve superelevation, install w-beam barrier on the roadside, install wide painted profiles on the centre line, improve sealed shoulder, install new curve and advisory speed signs, and guideposts with reflectors.
On Clarence Town Road south of Union Bridge at Wirragulla, the $530,500 project will install a 2-4m incremental traversable clearzone, improve the shoulder, improve superelevation, install w-beam barrier on roadside, install curve alignment markers and new signs.
Dr Gillespie said the projects would be delivered under the 2019–20 Federal Road Black Spot Program.
“The community’s input has been critical to identifying key black spots in our local area, and I’m delighted these two projects have been successful in securing funding,” Dr Gillespie said.
“By specifically targeting road locations with a history of crashes for safety upgrades such as lighting, signage, traffic lights and roundabouts, the Black Spot Program reduces crashes causing injury and death at those sites by around 30 per cent.

“Under the National Road Safety Strategy 2011–2020, the Australian, state and territory governments have committed to reducing the numbers of deaths and serious injuries recorded on the nation’s roads by at least 30 per cent by 2020. Fixing the 78 black spots identified in NSW over the next 12 months will be crucial in helping achieve that."
