The Feathers, Fur, Skin and Scales exhibition is being held at Morpeth Gallery to mark World Environment Day on June 5.
Gallery owner Trevor Richards said starting on Thursday, seven artists, each with a passion for wildlife conservation, will be in residence at the Gallery to talk about wildlife and visitors can watch them paint.
"One of those artists is Lisa Beatty, whose creations could knock you over with a feather," he said.
Lisa has brought to the exhibition 21 pieces of Australian native bird feather art that range in price from $330 up to $1320 to Morpeth for the exhibition.
The star of the show is an Emu feather curtain in the shape of a bird's wing. Made from thousands of individual feathers strung and beaded together, it measures 1.5 metres wide by 2.40 metres long and is for sale for $6820. It took 130 hours to create.
Lisa said a single Red Tailed Black Cockatoo Feather can sell online for as much as $500. "The Australian bush is my sanctuary," Lisa said. "As I grew, so did my reverence for feathers. I wanted to share my passion with everyone," she said.
"I had to undergo a lengthy and challenging application process. Native bird feathers are strictly regulated in Australia. Eventually, I was granted a biodiversity conservation licence which allows me to create with feathers which have been cast off naturally."
Wildlife artists Robyn Collier, Natalie Jane Parker, Garry Fleming, Stephen Jesic and James Hough will also exhibit over the weekend.
