Adam Heathcote, 18, of Woodberry, pleaded guilty in Maitland Local Court on Monday after the incident at a Kingstown Road address.
Four adults and several children were out the front of the home about 12.30pm when Heathcote, who was known to them, rode past on a bike several times, according to a police statement of facts.
Words were exchanged between the parties before Heathcote threatened to stab one of the men and lunged forward with the scissors, but did not make contact.
Police were called and attended the scene. Inquiries led them to nearby Segenhoe Street, where they arrested Heathcote.
Police also found a mountain bike at the property, which had been stolen from Newcastle three days earlier.
Heathcote was charged with:
- Common assault
- Armed with intent to commit indictable offence
- Stalk or intimidate (two counts)
- Goods in custody
He has been remanded in custody for sentencing in Newcastle next month.
