Outdoor pools at both Maitland and East Maitland will re-open on September 28 and a season launch event will follow at East Maitland Aquatic Centre on October 1.
There will be free entry to the pool all day and plenty of activities between 10am and 2pm.
The event will include a dunk the lifeguard game, inflatables both on land and in the pool, opportunities to try the aquatic programs, resuscitation demonstrations, free learn to swim assessments, giveaways and a sausage sizzle.
The Cancer Council will be on hand as well to provide sun-smart advice and there will also be some 'Keep Watch' tips for parents.
Maitland City Council community and recreation manager Laurie D'Angelo said the idea behind the day was to kick things off for what is expected to be a busy swim season.
"It's the first time we've done a season launch and we're hoping for a good turnout," Ms D'Angelo said.
Last year the two pools received about 190,000 visits combined.
"We're really fortunate in Australia and in Maitland to have really good seasonal weather, and swimming is a part of that, but it's really important we do that safely as well," Ms D'Angelo said.
The outdoor pools will remain open until about mid-April next year, while the indoor pool at Maitland is open year-round.
