Downpours are predicted for Maitland and other parts of the country in the next few days, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.
There is a 70 per cent chance of rain in Maitland on Thursday, with 4 to 10 mm predicted.
Another 5 to 10 mm is expected on Friday with potentially more again on the weekend.
The NSW RFS is perhaps the most hopeful that the weather prediction comes true.
"If this Bureau of Meteorology rainfall forecast comes to fruition then this will be all of our Christmas, birthday, engagement, anniversary, wedding and graduation presents rolled into one. Fingers crossed," the organisation posted on its Facebook page.
The rain is expected to come ahead of level 2 water restrictions, which will be in effect from January 20.
