The $31 million dollar development application, which is currently on public exhibition again, seeks approval for the construction of a new 108 bed residential aged care facility at the already existing Closebourne House site on Morpeth Road.
The applicant, Catholic Health, originally lodged with Maitland City Council in 2018.
In July, the Joint Regional Planning Panel met to discussion the project, and covered a number of topics including state heritage, objections to the proposal, height and scale relationship.
As a result, new information on the proposal has been updated including a heritage impact assessment, traffic report, sewer plan and archaeology assessment, aborist report and fabric analysis.
According to the proposal, residents will live in a number of linked buildings in a mix of single and double storey and include the "adaptive reuse" of Closebourne House, the former laundry, the former gym/chapel and Arkell House and integration of those buildings into the new facility.
The facility will consist of six wings consisting of 72 high care units and 36 dementia specific care units. It will provide residents with meals, cleaning services, personal care and nursing care.
The exhibition period closes on January 28, and the application will be decided by the Joint Regional Planning Panel at a later date.
