Jessica Neave, 23, wants to be a role model for the younger generation and encourage them to become the best version of themselves.
That desire has led her to the 2020 Maitland Showgirl quest, which is part of The Land Sydney Royal Showgirl competition.
"I think it's a very inspirational movement, it's very supportive of women in the rural sector and it spreads a positive message," she said.
"Being a teacher, I want to be an inspiration to the younger generation.
"I come from an agricultural background - I've had horses all my life. I have four horses and one dog on 25 acres."
The Clarence Town woman is a casual teacher who can work in primary and high schools.
She is also a special education trained teacher, which allows her to educate students with special needs.
She adores teaching primary school children and hopes to one day be employed by a single school and have her own class.
Until then she is kept busy splitting her time between various primary schools.
"I have real passion for teaching people things, and I have a great desire to learn and to help other people learn. Kids are great," she said.
"I think I am quite a patient and kind person and the kids seem to gravitate towards me.
"My teachers and my principals said to me that I would make a great teacher and that is what also inspired me to follow this path.
"I didn't have a break, I finished school and went straight into university to start studying."
Ms Neave has been in the saddle since she was a toddler.
She spent more than a decade riding with pony club and she has won a few state titles. She has also competed in barrel racing.
Her next goal is to compete in showing classes at agricultural shows.
When she's not teaching, or riding horses, you'll probably find her on the stage.
She is a singer in her family's band, called JLS. She also plays the guitar.
"It's made up of my dad, my brother and I and three of our friends," Ms Neave said.
"We're more of a country rock band, but we do a bit of everything including older style rock.
"We had a gig at Lostock last weekend and we did a walk up session on the Friday night where we played as well and I had 12 kids wanting to sing without music, they just wanted to get up and have a go."
The 2020 Maitland Showgirl, and placegetters, will be announced at the official opening of Maitland Show. The show will be held on February 14, 15 and 16.
