Well, that's because the old girl is currently in the middle of receiving restorative works - with a price tag of more than $600,000 makeover.
The works include termite repairs to the tower floors, clock face restoration, water protection and replacing each of the galvanised shingles on the tower's dome top.
"This restoration is part of the ongoing asset management of Town Hall," Council's Senior Project Architect Ben Griffin said.
'It's really important that Council respects the heritage significance of buildings like Maitland Town Hall, which is why the team enagaged and timeline to complete this work has been strongly considered to ensure it is done to the best possible standard."
Melbourne based HBS Group have been engaged as the head contractor and will be completing the job over the coming months.
There is also a Local Heritage Consultant and a specialised Heritage Structural Engineer working on the project.
In addition to the current clock tower restoration, there is a range of ongoing works happening at Maitland Town Hall including current works to address damp issues as well as facility upgrades incorporated with the construction of the Maitland Administration Centre, starting later this year.
The original form of the town hall was completed in 1890, to a design by local architects James Scobie and Arthur Lee.
The clock was later installed in 1936.
It included a two-storey office section with a public hall.
The entire collection of buildings that make up what is known as the Town Hall is currently recognised as a cultural heritage item of State significance and listed under the NSW Heritage Act.
Maitland Town Hall is listed on the NSW State agency register and the State Heritage Register and is protected under the NSW Heritage Act 1977. The clock tower restoration will be completed mid year.
