RSPCA Hunter senior manager Debbie Jaggers said while the shelter at Rutherford had made some changes to cope with the coronavirus situation, there were still animals looking for homes as usual.
"We're doing everything we can to get animals into homes," Dr Jaggers said.
"It's a great time considering we're all going to be at home.
"There would be so much appreciation from us and our animals."
The Australian Veterinary Association said on Wednesday there was no evidence that companion animals could spread the disease to humans or other animals.
But the shelter has taken precautions, and asks people to visit the Adopt A Pet website and make an appointment rather than just dropping into the shelter, Dr Jaggers said.
Information on fostering and adoption can be found on the RSPCA NSW website.
