Maitland Croquet Club will undergo multiple upgrades to its facilities and equipment with a significant funding boost from the NSW Government's Stronger Country Communities Fund aimed at improving local infrastructure in the regions.

Parliamentary Secretary for the Hunter Catherine Cusack today announced $267,100 in NSW Government funding for Maitland Croquet Club Inc. and congratulated the club's Construction Coordinator, Wal Mills for their successful application.
"Maitland Croquet Club will now be able to undertake a range of upgrades including extending the covered verandah area for spectators, an expanded training room, as well as installing two new unisex bathrooms and a shower," said Ms Cusack.
"The club will now also be able to purchase new croquet equipment, spectator chairs,line-marking, fertiliser and other vital maintenance equipment to support the club's increase in participation."
With the club currently closed due to COVID-19, the timing will enable early construction works, with building plans recently approved by Maitland City Council.
Maitland Croquet Club Construction Coordinator, Wal Mills was excited to hear of the substantial funding and expressed his appreciation to the NSW Government for supporting the club.
"Maitland Croquet Club is extremely excited and deeply appreciative to receive this funding which will allow removal of the old rusted shipping containers, and the upgrade of our facilities and equipment," said Mr Mills.
"Building of additional restrooms and an enlarged clubhouse will also allow increased patronage and give us the ability to cater for state and national competitions, which to-date has been very cramped and extremely difficult."
Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW John Barilaro said $100 million was being distributed across regional NSW, with regional communities set to benefit from more than 550 new projects.
To date, rounds one and two of the program have funded more than 1,000 projects. "Locals across regional NSW are seeing the benefits of rounds one and two of the Fund, with projects making a big difference to everyday life, from new playgrounds loved by kids to light towers illuminating sporting fields," Mr Barilaro said.
"We are funding grassroots projects that make a real difference to each community, and we know how important it is to support our regional towns with new infrastructure and programs."
The $400 million Stronger Country Communities Fund is part of the NSW Government's $1.7 billion Regional Growth Fund, which is being invested in local programs andinfrastructure that improve the lives of people living in regional NSW.
