The event is sponsored by Greater Bank who is planting 75,000 trees in the areas it calls home across Regional NSW to mark 75 years of growing greater together. Bakers Brickyard is one of the beneficiaries of the program receiving 2000 native trees to be planted in the area to the rear of the dog park.
"The day will be family friendly and open to people of all ages and abilities. We're excited to bring this event to life and the community together in a COVID Safe way to support our local environment," Council's Operations Manager Recreation Works, Caine James said.
"Trees are a priority for the community and this will be a great way for users of the park to get involved in the process of reintroducing native vegetation to the area.
"This is a wonderful contribution by Greater Bank and we thank them for including this project as part of their 75 Year celebrations."
Community members are encouraged to be involved in the free event and assist with the planting, which in time will not only provide additional shade within the reserve but also attract birds to the area and provide habitat for native fauna.
The holes for the trees will be dug prior to the event, which Maitland City Council and Greater Bank employee volunteers will be attending to assist with the planting.
Those interested can register online for one or more of the four planting sessions spanning from 9am to 3pm on the day.
Spaces are limited due to COVID-19 social distancing requirements for the event.
Attendees are required to wear enclosed shoes, a hat, and bring their own drink bottle on the day. Gloves will be provided at the event, but people may bring their own if preferred.
