"We decided that given the event was only six months ago, we should do something different for 2021," H Events organiser Paul Humphreys said.
"It makes sense to give local and visiting athletes a look at the new centre. This is a seriously good sports facility and it needs to be used. We are proud Maitland locals and we are runners."
This year's event on June 6 will start and finish at the Athletics Centre with the traditional events on offer.
The main difference will be the Maitland Mile (1609m) which will now become a track Mile with $2000 in prize money on offer.
Also on offer will be a 4km, 8km and 12km versions, as well as a the half marathon distance of 21.1km. Local mid distance runners will also be lining up for the feature race on the new 'world class' track.
The main course will continue to the use the River Foreshore with the 4km's loop to include the track, Odd Street, one side of Hunter Street and then the traditional lower paths along the river.
