In response to the lockdown of Greater Sydney, the Blue Mountains, Central Coast and Wollongong from June 26, Northern NSW Football ruled that sides could postpone matches if they had four or more players absent because of the restrictions.
When the two-week lockdown was extended a week, the rule was also continued. However, the extension is set to end this Friday night despite the likelihood of several more weeks of lockdown.
Weston and Valentine, who both have several Central Coast-based players, have been the hardest hit, although Edgeworth postponed their game with Lake Macquarie.
Weston are set to host Edgeworth on Saturday and Valentine welcome Maitland on Sunday in round 15 and both home teams are likely to field understrength sides.
NNSWF football operations manager Liam Bentley was awaiting word on further restrictions but said clubs would need to prioritise fielding a top-grade side.
"It's going to impact [Weston and Valentine] but we need to think about the competition and how the majority of games can go ahead," Bentley said. "We've said to clubs that first grade is the priority and you will have to push players up. If the under 18s or youth teams then don't have enough players, those matches will be seen as a regional washout, which is a 0-0 draw."
Bentley said Weston and Valentine, who have two games in hand each, "are the only two who are having major troubles" but "there are others with one or two out but they have forged on the last few weeks."
"We sent emails to clubs at the start of it, when we knew this was going to happen," he said.
"It was a two-week lockdown at that point and we said we'd allow them to postpone matches through that lockdown period.
"After that, the clubs will be expected to fill the fixtures.
"When it was announced it would extend for an extra week, we said we'd allow the arrangement to continue.
"We haven't gone back out to clubs yet, because we are waiting to see what the next lockdown brings. Hopefully again it doesn't impact the Hunter."
