Nine members of the team have committed to raising $3000 by walking from 100 to 150 kilometres each throughout September.

Brooke Flannery, Caity Touzell, Emily Docking, Grace Maher, Jenna Stevens, Lauren Cameron, Sarah Harris, Sky Dunn and Stella Nichols have raised $2116 so far which Camp Quality use to help children dealing with their own cancer diagnosis or the diagnosis of a family member.

Maitland Saints Captain Grace Maher said it's a great opportunity to support people in a way that they wouldn't normally have an opportunity to.

"It's a really good opportunity and something we're all very capable of doing, and we're aiming to raise a large amount of money which we're on track with, which is awesome," she said.

Ms Maher was going to undertake the big walk herself, and extended an offer to her Saints team to participate after their 2021 football season was cancelled due to lockdown.

Ms Maher is thrilled with the amount of teammates who signed up with her, taking up the opportunity to raise money for a great cause whilst keeping fit and staying connected.

"I've ended up with nine girls which is great, I wasn't expecting so many," she said.

According to Ms Maher, each member of the team is walking or running anywhere from four to seven kilometres per day.

"I'm aiming for about four kilometres each day - sometimes it's five, sometimes it's three."

The Maitland Saints have had a rough season, after losing a lot of their previous team and coming in at seventh out of eight teams when their season was cut short.

"We had a fun season though, it was a good opportunity and there was a lot of good sportsmanship in our grade which was awesome - a lot of the teams would actually lend us players if we were short which is just a really great showcase of sportsmanship."
